intrigue me

This morning I saw a guy in a red car sitting out in front of the house. He had a clipboard and a camera. He took a photo of the front of our house. Since I was wearing my pjs still, I declined to open the door and ask what he was doing. He turned the corner and drove slowly down the street.

I started thinking about the new google maps options of seeing the street level view of places. Our house is there, but it's an older photo. Honestly, it kind of freaked me out (both the guy taking the photo and seeing our house from street level on the internet).

The guy did not seem to be casing the joint, so to speak, but he did take a photo.

Who knows...

If you haven't done so yet, go to the google maps and put in your street address. Some cities have been updated so you can get that street level view. Tell me what you think.

I think I have an idea about the mystery man in the red car. He may be an appraiser who is gathering data for developing an appraisal for another sale.

It happens all of the time.

I will try your street level view of your address.

Hrm. We don't have street level (yet). But it would be weird/disconcerting to see someone doing that, even if it was completely "innocent".

I was thinking the same thing as your dad, esp. since you just recently closed on your house. They will go out and shoot their own pictures for their appraisals.
But, yes, it is a little freaky to see how easy people can find out so much about you.

no street level for me either, thank heavens.

I do, however, enjoy taking tours of places I've never been--or even areas of Phoenix/Scottsdale that I'm unsure of. :)

Did he have an 11-sided camera?

anytime large companies like google and yahoo do this type of civilian observations, they need to register any/all vehicles with the local PD, and that includes copies of the driver's licences and descriptions.

i'm saying this 'cuz you could have witnessed a worker doing his job - an accident victim photographing the scene of the incident for his insurance, or a CHILD STALKER or something worse. (tho i can't think of much else worse)

keep you and your family safe.

okay?

Dad- You are probably right. That makes so much sense since there are still houses on the market, going on the market, etc.

Jen- Yeah, it was just odd to look up and see a guy look at a piece of paperwork, pull the camera up to his face, and snap.

Becky- With your Real Estate background, I'm glad to hear that you agree with my Dad. But you are right...too many people can get too much information about others.

K- I can see how it would be a useful tool, for people wanting to move to an area, but it was freaky seeing the front of our house (even though it was taken when the other owner lived here).

Tanya- He did not, which let's me know that he wasn't from Google maps. You are such a font of information! :)

Bronxbt- I am feeling pretty safe that it was a realtor or someone doing some appraisal research. The house next to us is vacant. Maybe her children are looking to put it on the market so they need to find out everything about the neighborhood before they do? We will be safe, have no worries.
