...go about getting rid of the bad energy someone decides they need to leave you when they up and steal a pair of shoes from the store you work at?
Twice in as many weeks. Not same girl, oh no, I see either of them at ANYTIME I will be calling them out on it. This one, I feel I will see again soon. Not in the store, but out on the street wandering around. I'm calling her out. I am sick of people feeling they have the right to not pay for something. The thing that irritates me most, I knew she'd steal something. I watched her like a hawk, she got them when I turned my back for a second.
You speak with your yoga teacher/friend, that's how. Diana just called...it has brought me back to where I need to be.

Ugh. This time of year is rife with that. Back when I worked at Crate & Barrel, people would bring an empty (C&B) bag in, wait until nobody saw them, and slip a nice $100 Calphalon pan into the bag & try to return it. The audacity! You've also got to put your faith in karma & not take it on. Glad yoga helps you, too......
Plazajen has the right idea. They may steal your merchandise, but don't let them steal your humanity.
Love,
Dad
Thanks Jen and Dad. Your words also help.
Feeling better today after a gin and tonic out with some friends (and a great chef's salad to go).
Now it's a new day and with a new day comes new eyes. Hawk, I am a hawk. I turn my back on no one. This gets difficult when I'm the only person there and I have to go into the back room for someone, but hey, if he wants nothing stollen from his store he can bring in more help...which he'd told me he would do for me this holiday season (too bad sales have been low and he doesn't see the need). ARG.
Two years at JC Penney, and this is my favorite story:
A customer brings a large comforter to the counter and asks, "Could I leave this here?" I say, "Sure." While the customer is off looking for other purchases, another man, drunk as a skunk, comes to the counter. He takes the comforter, walks around the counter to the other cash register and says to me, "I'd like to return this." Keep in mind, I've been standing at the cash register the entire time and watched him do this. Before I could answer, the customer comes back and says, "Hey, that's mine!" A small verbal argument ensues, and the drunkard stumbles out of the store.
People are jerks. Don't let it get to you.
What a toad. I bet she stepped in the first pile of dog poop that she came across.
You know, back in the day, when I may or may not have attempted to take things that were not mine, that I didn't pay for, if I had managed to pick up and hide something I may or may not have intended to leave with, if a clerk had said, "Um, excuse me?" as I made my way to the door, I would have peed my pants, dropped the merchandise-that-wasn't-mine, and apologized profusely.
I'm not sayin' that these girls would do the same thing, but you might try it, next time someone threatens to leave you with the dark cloud again. Unless, of course, it is company or store policy to just let them go, as a life is not worth the pair of shoes.
(Don't know how rampant violent crime is up your way.)
Just a thought, oh warm recently knitted scarf-ed one...
When I worked retail, I saw the same stuff... The funny thing is, I'm an ex-bad person, so I KNOW all the tricks.
Here's one to protect yourself and your store:
Go to your computer
open up WORD
Type on a horizontal page the following sentence -
"TO ALL THE RECENT FEMALE AND MALE THIEVES RECENTLY OBSERVED TAKING ITEMS FROM THIS STORE.... WE KNOW OF YOU, AND WOULD LIKE TO WISH YOU THE HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS. NOW, REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THIS STORE."
post this in your ENTRYWAY, and up toward your Register.
Works everytime. Most fun is watching the folks you already know are guilty see it, read it, comprehend it, and try really hard to not pass out.
giggle.
Warm hugs to YOU, yer family, pets, and all you fellow Blog-mates.
"we know who you are!"
